But Darra, Why Event Planning?!
Hey there :)
Mind if I have a transparent moment with you?
Throughout this self-quarantine that we're experiencing, I have been spending true quality time checking in with myself and reflecting on my journeys.
One journey that has particularly been on my mind is my journey of transitioning into event planning.
The one question that I'm frequently asked is, "Why event planning?"
Here's my answer to that...
If you know my story, then you know that less than a year ago, I lost my best friend to a senseless, violent act. From time to time, I replay that moment that I discovered that my longtime friend was robbed from me, her family, her baby...
I have never experienced pain that sharp...a pain that bone-chilling.
For weeks, it was a struggle for me to leave my house -- let alone attend events. I took time off from work, turned my phone on "do not disturb", and literally hid from the rest of the world.
During that season, I disconnected from the Darryca that I evolved into and quickly found myself reverting to the same bad habits that I fought so hard to overcome.
It wasn't until I felt somewhat prepared to leave my home and force myself to dive back into society that I was able to begin my healing process.
For a while, I attended events to keep my mind off of my harsh reality. I did whatever it took for me to keep my mind off of the haunting thoughts and tear-jerking memories that kept replaying in my head. Eventually, those same events that I forced myself to attend became my way of executing self-love.
Events helped me reconnect with the world and gain a deeper understanding of who I am. Because of my own transformation, I knew that I could use my passion to change the way people interact at their social gatherings forever.
I am a strong believer that the right event can heal, excite, transform, and even deliver someone from a truly dark time...I learned this the hard way.
My passion was fueled by the likes of Sarah Jake Roberts, Eric Thomas, T.D. Jakes, and more. With this newfound fire, I now work day in and day out to curate events that will impact lives in significant ways.
With the Darra Experience by Darra Michelle, like-minded visionaries are given the opportunity to come together to either create an influential experience for those facing trying times or service companies that could use a big boost in morale.
That's my story and I embrace it. Why? Because something beautiful is being birthed from it and I'm excited to share it with the world!
Enough about me -- tell me, are there any specific events that have helped you get through some of your own harsh moments?
xoxo,
Darra Michelle
